I have been trying to find out more about Windows Registry and it is amazing and wonderful to change the binary values and have fun experiencing changes in our Window panel. I was trying a lot to give a customized look of my desktop. Soon I noticed that we cannot change or renamed Recycle Bin. I thought there must be someway. I asked one of my tech geek friend. He suggested that it can be done by editing some value in the registry. I asked his help and soon the result was amazing. I can see that now I can rename it to what ever I want. I have explained the process below. It isn’t that complicated. Just some little changes in the registry values and you are there but please be careful to edit Windows registry because any wrong values can create problem in your Windows.

  • Go to Start -> Run
  • Type “regedit” (regedit = Registry Editor)
  • Navigate to: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\ShellFolder
  • On the right side, right click “Attributes” and click “Modify”
  • Change the data value from “40 01 00 20″ to “70 01 00 20″.
  • Exit registry

Well that is it for the registry editor part but you won’t notice any changes unless you restart your computer. When you restart your computer then you will notice some change in the Recycle Bin name when you right click on Recycle icon. Find out yourself and do not forget to comment here. :)
