There are a lot of extra features in the new Windows XP and some of the features and visual effects are just unnecessary and eliminating these features you can simply increase the performance of your computer. Example may be the drop shadow on an icon of a folder. This would definitely give a better look with the effect but on the performance level of you computer it surely will effect somewhat. Well if you are using old computer or if you want your computer’s performance level better than before, today’s tip will definitely help you out.

Below is the process to reach out to the options so that you can change the graphics options by yourself and put what you want and what is best for you.

  • Click “Start” button and then open the “Run” dialog box.
  • Type “sysdm.cpl” in “Run” dialog box then press “OK” button. (Alternative way might be right clicking “My Computer” and then going to the “Properties” section)
  • At the dialog box of “System Properties”, select “Advanced” tab.
  • Click on “Settings” button under “Performance” section.
  • Another dialog box of “Performance Options” will appear with different options.
  • Go to the “Visual Effects” tab (mostly the default is the Visual Effects tab)
  • Choose the settings you want to use for the appearance and performance of windows on your computer.

There are four different ways to choose these visual effects:

  1. Let Windows choose what’s best for my computer.
  2. Adjust for best appearance.
  3. Adjust the best performance.
  4. Custom.

I think the option 4. Custom is the best option here as you can choose the option by yourself. You can simply tick the check boxes and choose the options as you desire and improve the performance level of you computer accordingly.
