The number or hackers and crackers are increasing day by day. People knowingly and unknowingly participate in such crimes and this act harms the poor innocent PC users who have less knowledge of such spywares or virus. I have often encountered people being tortured with the virus infection which eats up the Folder Option in Tools menu in Windows. With the folder option disappearing in the tools menu, you won’t be able to see the hidden files. This is another effect of the virus. So with no access to folder option, you won’t be able check on the checkbox that enables or disables to see the hidden files on your PC. The problem is you can’t see any Folder Option in the Tools menu and even in Control Panel. You can enable the folder option with just simple adjustment in Registry Editor. The worst is when even the Registry Editor is disabled.
I had researched a little and find out the remedy for this problem. Below is the thorough process on enabling/disabling Folder Option and Registry Editor in Windows.
1. When Both Folder Options and Registry Editor is disabled, you need to first Enable the Registry Editor:
- Go to Start -> Run
- Type gpedit.msc and goto: User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System
- In right-side pane, set “Prevent access to Registry editing tools” to either Not Configured or Disabled.
OR
- Go to Start -> Run
- Just type
REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableRegistryTools /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /fin RUN dialog box and press Enter
2. To enable Folder Options:
- Go to Start -> Run
- Type “regedit” (regedit = Registry Editor)
- Navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Policies\ExplorerANDHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Policies\Explorer In right-side pane, check whether a DWORD value named NoFolderOptions exists or not? If it exists, delete it.
OR
You can simply change the value as 0 to show the option. (Value Data: 0 = show options, 1 = hide options)
