It has been couple of weeks, more like a month, that I have been using my keyboard as my mouse. I had bought the latest optical technology mouse from CASECOM but soon after one month it gave up on me. I had no receipt so I couldn’t ask for a refund of exchange a new one instead. I have been so lazy that I didn’t want to go shopping so instead I am using my keyboard as my mouse.

I then found out that like 80%-90% of my friends didn’t know that we can actually use our keyboard as mouse and can maneuver the mouse cursor the same way we do it with the real mouse. Most of them were just stunned by what I was doing, using my keyboard as my mouse. Well everybody kept on asking how did I do it, and all of them were so keen to know how it is done. I thought this would be my first post which might help others, incase they need emergency use and their mouse doesn’t work.

Below is the process how it is done:

  • Go to the Start Menu > Control Panel > Accessibility Options
  • You will see Keyboard, Sound, Display, Mouse, General
  • Use Ctrl + Tab button to go to the Mouse Menu
  • Press Alt + M to click on the check box of Use MouseKeys
  • Press Alt + S to go the Settings.
  • Then you can click on Tab to go through the options as you desire.
  • You can use MouseKeys when NumLock is on or off. (I prefer NumLock off)

Well you will notice that when the NumLock key is off you can maneuver the cursor to the right, left, up, down, and even diagonal up, down, and sideways.

Some more options:

  • To click on something, use the key 5.
  • To activate right click, press “* key” and then 5.
  • To activate back to left click, press “/ key” and then 5.
  • To drag or select something, click “0 key” and then drag the cursor and finally click 5.

Well these are the general function that we do with our mouse when can be done with the keyboard. Find out more exploring more about using keyboard as your mouse.
