I was on my way to one of my friend’s home when she showed me one of this problem. The task bar wouldn’t activate and when I try to run the task manager the following message is displayed: “The Task Manager has been disabled by the Administrator.” This was a result of some virus infection but she had already run the anti-virus and healed her PC. I was unable to enable her task manager till now.

I just found the way to just simply change the value inside the registry from where I could actually enable the task manager back on.

Below are the processes for enabling your task manager:

First Method:
The following tweak concerns playing with you registry so I would advise to backup your registry or do not perform it if you are not an advancer user.

  • Go to Start -> Run
  • Type ‘regedit’ (regedit = Registry Editor)
  • Navigate to:‘HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System’
  • In the right pane there is a DWORD value ‘DisableTaskMgr’
  • Double click it and change its value to ‘0’
  • Exit registry

Now you can try to open the taskbar by pressing keys Ctrl + Alt + Del or just simply right click on your desktop taskbar and you can see that your ‘Task Manager’ is enabled.

I went through one of the website and found another simple method so I thought of including it here. I tried and it works fine with this method as well.

Second Method:

  • Go to Start -> Run
  • Type ‘gpedit.msc’ and enter. (gpedit = Group Policy Editor)
  • Navigate to User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Ctrl+Alt+Del Option
  • In the right pane you will see an entry ‘Remove Task Manager’, double click it (Remove Task Manager properties will open)
  • Select ‘Not configured’ and click OK to enable the task manager.
